Gluten Free Quinoa Bread
Quinoa is naturally gluten-free. As long as you don’t add any gluten to your bread recipe, you will end up with gluten free quinoa bread.
How to Make Quinoa Bread
Making quinoa bread is easy. The main thing is to get your quinoa flour. There are two ways to do this:
- Buy quinoa flour
- Buy quinoa and mill at home (see here for an example of milling millet at home).
If you mill at home, you will need a mill. Here is a review post about the mill that I use at home (and at work) – Nutrimill Harvest Grain.
Quinoa Bread Ingredients
The ingredients for quinoa bread are:
- quinoa flour
- salt, for flavor
- baking powder, for leavening
- chia seeds (optional)
- water
Quinoa Bread Recipe
Mix the dry ingredients together well – i.e. the quinoa flour, salt, baking powder, and chia seeds. Add water and mix well. Let sit for 10 minutes.
Pour batter into a well greased, parchment paper lined baking tray. Put into a 350 deg oven for 20 minutes, rotating half way through.
Let rest for ten minutes on wire rack – then enjoy! Cut into squares – it is best toasted simply with some butter or olive oil and flaky salt.
Ancient Grain Bread
Quinoa is an ancient grain bread. Ancient grains are a category of grains that have been largely unchanged for thousands of years. If you’re looking to mix up your bread game even more, you could try making bread with other ancient grains. Ancient grains like spelt, einkorn, and kamut have been around for thousands of years and offer a range of nutritional benefits. These grains are often more nutrient-dense than modern wheat and are rich in protein, fiber, and other essential nutrients. Making bread with these grains can give your baked goods a hearty and nutty flavor that pairs well with savory or sweet toppings.
